I am writing to ask that the proposal by the Parking Commission to increase the rates for the University and HighSchool Residential Parking permits be reconsidered.I do not understand why a portion of the fines collected cannot be used to offset the expenses of the district, thusreducing the need for such a large rate increase.
I also see that the number of visitor permits , another source of income, has decreased. The current system ofneeding to report visitors by computer is cumbersome andInefficient for many of us. I cannot believe that there is no way for a visitor permit to have a chip embedded thatcould be read by the enforcement vehicle. Here is an article from Cambridge, Massachusetts.https://www.cambridgema.gov/traffic/Permits/visitorparkingpermits/peoplevisitingresidentsattheirhomesin which they state this about their visitor permits."Permit use is monitored and recorded on handheld computers
used by Parking Control Officers. Patterns of excessive use on the same vehicle will result in ticketing andrevocation."Tolls paid for toll roads in Illinois and I am sure other places, are read from a device left on a car dashboard.A more easily used system would be appreciated in Bozeman.
Please send this email on to the members of the Parking Commission and to the members of the City Council.
Thank you for considering these ideas.
