Giangrancisco - Pool hoursFrom:pancratium@hushmail.com To:Agenda Subject:Bozeman Swim Center / Sports Cove / Gallatin County Tactical Dive Team Date:Monday, June 29, 2020 10:07:58 PM 29 June 2020 To: City of Bozeman Fr: Mike Gianfrancisco Resource Member, Gallatin County Tactical Dive Team It is my understanding that the Swim Center is going to reduce pool times for the Sports Cove to daytime hours. I urge you to reconsider those actions for the safety of the Gallatin County Tactical Dive Team Members and water recreating public in general. Concern: Gallatin County Tactical Dive Team - Reduced Training -This will severely reduce attendance at critical training for Dive Team Members that work during the day. Weekend days will not be a solution as a good number of the Team work weekends. Concern: Sports Cove - Business Impact / Impacting Team Support -This will also negatively impact the Sports Cove by reducing customers able to attend during those hours. Second Order Effects from this would be the Dive Team’s inability to recruit new divers going through basic S.C.U.B.A. classes while keeping in contact with the diving community taking advanced classes. Concern: Pool - After Hours Life Guards “Life Guarding” is what the Dive Team is trained to do. As part of public safety diving Team Members go through a Rescue Diver Course. As the name implies this course centers on rescuing injured divers. Team members are also trained to rescue people in a variety of water environments far more dangerous than the pool. Recommendations: Allow the continued practice of pool utilization after normal business hours with a qualified Dive Team Member or Sports Cove employee acting as a safety/lifeguard. Conclusion: Any reduction in training for the Dive Team will have a negative impact on their response to the publics calls for help along with impacting a 30-year local business. Fortunately, this can easily be worked around with additional concerns being addressed through regular dialogue between all invested parties. Thank you for your time.
