Dear Bozeman City Commission Members,
Thank you for including on your July 6, 2020 agenda further action and enforcement
of mandatory mask wearing within city limits during the current COVID-19 case
surge.
Bozeman voters elected you as excellent candidates to provide leadership for our
community. Please do everything you can to protect our community from the
continued threat the spread of COVID-19 poses to our public health, economy and
the quality education of our youth. Please decisively take action to require everyone
wear masks in public until we eradicate the spread of this virus. Science is on yourside as you face this unpopular decision.
In late June MSU's Department of Microbiology and Immunology posted an article
titled "Mask Confusion: towards an understanding of the recommendations on mask-wearing during the COVID-19 pandemic" by Katie Woods, M.D.
Dr. Woods writes "People infected with SARS-CoV-2 may be infectious despite being
asymptomatic [10] and people who go on to develop symptoms may be infectious 1 to3 days before they develop symptoms[11]. Consequently, regularly wearing a mask
when around other people can reduce the risk that you will infect others, or others will
infect you - regardless whether or not anyone has symptoms." Her article's links to
science supporting those claims are below:

Thank you for your consideration,
