First Name Lori Last Name Tuck Email Address lori.tuck.15@gmail.com Phone Number 4064610524 Comments Dear Commissioners and Mayor, I’m writing to ask that you pass an ordinance requiring masks indoors. With the rising COVID-19 cases in Bozeman and the county, I think it’s time to be proactive and enact ordinances that protect citizens of the city and county. A mask ordinance would make it easier for city/county businesses to do the right thing. With a mask ordinance, when a customer complains, the staff can say, “we’re just following the law." Without an ordinance it’s harder for businesses to require masks. Recent studies show that if even 50 to 70 percent of a population wear masks, COVID infections drop dramatically. This is not about handing out tickets. It’s about educating the public, providing clear guidelines that reasonable people will want to follow, and creating a level playing field for all city/county businesses. However, I don’t think that you need to focus on enforcement. But instead, people can be given a warning, with police providing masks to people who don’t have them. Also, have police encourage folks to a keep physical distance of at least 6 feet. Having police walking sidewalks and parks should be encouraged. Additionally, I ask for the time being, to encourage all bars and restaurants to serve outside and (or) reduce capacity of indoor seating to 50%. I think most county/city folks want to follow more safety measures. Thank you for your consideration.
