Semones - masks to be worn for safety in publicFrom:Linda Semones To:Agenda Subject:masks to be worn for safety in public Date:Friday, July 3, 2020 1:48:06 PM Dear City Commissioners, I understand you will be discussing on Monday evening whether citizens of Bozeman will be required to wear a mask in public places. I am not a scientist, and I have no intention of listing a bunch of scientific articles supporting this action. But I can say, firmly, that I will be avoiding all establishments on Main Street until the shops, restaurants, and bars require their patrons and their staff to wear a mask. It is frightening to see the large groups lining the street every night, with only 1 of 10 wearing a mask. The situation will only get worse as MSU fully opens up. I will not even be walking up or down the street. This disease is a vicious, unknown enemy that has not only taken many lives in this country but has also left people with debilitating side effects involving the vascular system, the lungs and the heart. We don't even know enough about this disease to say whether children are being affected severely with horrendous side effects, or whether you can be infected more than one time. One would think that just these facts would be enough to get most people to at least wear a mask. They are crazy not to. Add to this, the fact that many of the young people now being infected will carry this disease home to relatives who may be older, with compromised immune systems. I fully support the wearing of masks in public, just as I fully support wearing seat belts and bike helmets. What could be easier, and why should the majority put up with a vocal minority who put their personal rights over the public interest? Thank you for being willing to listen to a discussion on this topic. It will be a long one! Sincerely, Linda Semones 404 S. Church Ave. Bozeman MT 59715
