Dear Commissioners:
With the recent reopening of Montana's economy and the onset of the summer tourism season, we are
seeing record numbers of Covid-19 cases in Montana, and in Gallatin County in particular. Today the state
reported 56 new Covid-19 cases, 13 of which were in Gallatin County.
As someone who has followed the pandemic closely, consults with respected experts, and is the wife of a
nurse at Bozeman Health, one thing has become clear to me - the simplist, least expensive way we can
stem the rise in cases, other than practicing social distancing, is to wear masks. Unfortunately, too many
people in our community are not doing that despite urgent pleas by the Governor and local public health
officials. Yesterday I was shopping at Town and Country Foods on 19th and I was appalled at how many
people, especially young people, were not wearing masks. Sadly, that type of behavior is likely to continue
unless mask-wearing in indoor public spaces is made mandatory.
Given our current situation, I ask that the Bozeman CIty Commission vote to require masks in all indoor
public spaces within the city, and urge the county to do the same. It is the least we can do to protect our
fellow citizens, expecially the most vulnerable among us such as the elderly, immuno-compromised, and
our front line health care workers.
Sincerely,
Scott Bosse
