Mayor and Commissioners,
THANK YOU very much for approving the additional $50K for
stand-alone bike/ped projects!! I was particularly appreciative of
you choosing to fund that additional $50K by a transfer from the
General Fund thus giving the flexibility of using that money either
inside or outside of curb lines without incurring the risk of
violating state statutes on the use of revenue from a street
maintenance assessment.
I also wish to express gratitude to both Kristin Donald and John Van
Delinder in steering us down the correct path. The City has two gems
in those two individuals!!
My only disappointment in that action was you didn't make it crystal
clear that the budgeted money (both the proposed $50K and the
additional $50K) are for EITHER bike or pad projects. City staff has
repeatedly told us that is the case. Kristin told me staff can
change the name of STR20 to reflect this and we're very much hoping
staff will do that.
I also want to commend you for fully funding StreamLine's budget
request and for funding a new staff member to oversee transportation
demand management. Both actions will assist the economically
deprived, young, old, and handicapped of our community and will
reduce congestion during peak hours.
Over the years, I have attempted to restrict my personal involvement
in City matters to those activities involving my area of knowledge
and expertise, namely transportation. Last night I deviated from
that policy during my verbal comments at the Commission meeting. I
advocated for funding for the Help Center. Thank you for doing that
as well.
