General Budget. Dear Commissioners:
I have been advised that the City Commission has received over 400 letters regarding defunding the police
budget or retaining it. This is such a significant issue throughout not just the County and State, but the
Nation, and it has been reported that organized crime syndicates are heading the effort. If the County is
going to make a major decision that affects the residents of Gallatin County, City of Bozeman and
surrounding cities and businesses, such as defunding or redirecting police funds, you must notify by mail, all
residents and businesses in Bozeman so they may have an opportunity to voice their opinion. All RESIDENTS
AND BUSINESSES must have proper notification and time to comment on such a historical and significant
matter as defunding our police that affects the safety and well-being of all citizens and businesses of
Bozeman. How can "social programs" (homelessness, mental health, financial services, child and family
issues) prevent or solve crime? We must defend our police rather than defund them. Police exist as a body
of officers representing the civil authority of government. They are responsible for maintaining public order
and safety, enforcing the law, and preventing, detecting, and investigating criminal activities. The purpose
of law enforcement in a free society is to promote public safety and uphold the rule of law so that
individual liberty may flourish. Social programs do not solve crimes or enforce the law. We are at a tipping
point in the Country where we will either go the way of law and order and peace and prosperity, or we will
go down the road of lawlessness and total anarchy. Police stand in the way of chaos and provide safety for
you and your family. It is madness to defund or redirect police funds. To dismantle, destroy police
departments and American jobs is now a clear and present danger to the entire Country. Police across the
country are under attack. It is unfair and unjust. 99% of police officers are heros, they save lives and keep us
safe. Now, police officers are threatening to strike on July 4th because they have lost faith in their
leadership. They have lost their faith in their ability to perform their job to the best of their ability. If this
happens, things will not end well for the people of this County, City and for the Country. Good and honest
police, like what we have here in Gallatin County, will not be able to protect the people day or night. History
has proven that lawlessness causes anarchy. Officers in this Country have been shot, attacked, run over,
injured, disabled, killed and are leaving the profession. Who do we call at 3:00 a.m. when someone breaks
into your house or kidnaps your child? As County Commissioners you must demonstrate your leadership to
protect the people of Gallatin County and stand with our police force. Defunding the police is a political and
criminal agenda threatening the safety of every man, woman and child in America. DO NOT DEFUND OR
REDIRECT POLICE FUNDS.
