Dear Commissioners,
Please do not remove and reallocate any funds from law enforcement. This does nothing to hold officers
accountable for misconduct. Instead, "defunding" law enforcement makes law abiding citizens more
vulnerable. In addition, tax payer funds should not be used to discipline officers; this action does not
directly impact the offending officer. If the goal is to address police misconduct, there are other, more
effective ways. For example:
--If police are held liable for excessive use of force and/or while operating outside of national guidelines,
then any monetary judgments are paid out of police retirement funds. Do not use taxpayer funds.
--Individual police are required to carry insurance in case of judgments against them. The same as for bad
drivers, the bad cops will simply price themselves out of a job.
--Any law enforcement official, including prosecutors, etc., caught planting incriminating evidence and/or
withholding exculpatory evidence shall face the same penalties (fines and jail time) as the crimes they
attempted to frame.
