Dear Bozeman City Commission,
I would like to submit public comment requesting a $50,000 increase in funding (to $100,000
annually) for the retrofitting of bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure.
As a recent transplant to Bozeman, I have been impressed with the number of people who getaround by bicycle and on foot in all seasons. I know that with additional investment, Bozeman
could truly be a great city for bicycling and walking.
Prior to moving to Bozeman, I was the executive director of Bike Utah, which is the statewide, nonprofit bicycle advocacy organization. Salt Lake City and the surrounding communities are
currently dealing with a significant increase in population and traffic congestion. They arenow playing catch up to create the bicycling, walking, and public transportation infrastructure
because they know they can no longer build around cars. I hope Bozeman can avoid thesechallenges by proactively creating a well-planned city.
The key to getting more people bicycling and walking is safety and this increase in funding is
a positive step in creating a safer transportation system that encourages more bicycling andwalking. I hope the City Commission will be able to support this increase.
Thank you.
