Funding Streamline June 15th meeting
This message is written in support of the City of Bozeman’s consideration to honor Streamline’s entire
$300,000 funding request. Public transit is a critical component toward the creation of a livable community
and as stated in the community plan is essential to the well being of our community and our residents
ability to navigate without dependence on single vehicle transportation. The time to make this investment
is now as we will reap many benefits and it will be cost effective in the end.
To reduce carbon emissions, it is imperative we reduce the number of personal vehicles on the road.
Alternative modes of transportation need to be accessible and convenient to neighborhoods and popular
destinations related to personal needs, medical attention, recreation, retail, entertainment etc. Bus stops
need to be updated, sheltered from wind and rain and seating provided to be more age friendly.
With the growth of Bozeman, Belgrade and Gallatin County in general, traffic congestion is increasing and
will only get worse. We have an opportunity to be proactive to prevent the lengthy commute times present
in so many suburban sprawl cities and neighborhoods. We need to connect neighborhoods through a public
transit system that is safe and provides quality service for all ages and abilities.
Public transit will allow residents to put the money required to maintain a personal vehicle (purchase, car
payments, insurance, etc.) towards other living expenses, including a mortgage, food, healthcare, education
and childcare.
If we are serious about creating a community that does NOT promote suburban sprawl and one that
encourages engagement and purposeful living for all ages and abilities through connectivity, it is imperative
to invest in our public transportation system. People young and old are being driven from this city due to
housing issues and a dependable, safe, convenient, intricate public transportation system will benefit
commuters and residents alike.
Let’s get creative and find ways to support and improve Streamline! We can do this!
