The City budget has been called to my attention, not only because of the increase but also because 49% is
for fire and police. I reviewed the budget and am familiar with the mental health services also provided
with police, so thank you. However, in light of protest of police brutality and Minneapolis vowing to defund
the police. I feel that the City of Bozeman needs to at least explain this budget more. Why is it necessary to
spend so much on police and fire? Why does that have to be almost 50% of the budget. What do the police
do? Is it necessary for guns and cars to keep the peace in Bozeman? Where does this come from?
Please consider these questions and increasing the transparency as you vote in the new budget.
