HomeMy WebLinkAbout6-1-2020 Public Comment - J. Boyer - Fully fund StreamlineFrom:Jennifer Boyer To:Agenda Subject:Streamline Funding Date:Monday, June 1, 2020 8:24:15 AM Dear Mayor and City Commissioners, I am writing to urge you to fully fund Streamline’s request of $300,000 for the next fiscal year. Bozeman has been an incredible partner to our service which not only is growing but served a critical need during the time of COVID-19, providing transportation to many community members who had no other options. We are in the process of updating our routes, including an analysis of current level of use and where our service needs have shifted over the years. With this data and public input we will be able to provide the most efficient, cost- effective routes serving as much of the community as possible. This is an important investment and demonstrates that our funding is spent wisely, and every dollar is necessary to continue our service. Streamline plays a critical role in our community’s climate response. We are the public transit system that limits the number of vehicle trips on our roads and also provides service to destinations like Bridger Bowl. We take this responsibility seriously and see a growing role for our service as our community becomes even more committed to implementing climate solutions. We know that our community can make a significant impact towards reducing our transportation carbon footprint - but not everyone can walk or bike to all of their destinations and public transit is the right, and best alternative. Working towards a Urban Transit District is another long-term strategy to maintain, fund and expand our services. We will need to communicate the need and benefits of a district to make this transition. If we reduce service, this becomes more difficult as our community will not see the value of Streamline if service is reduced. Please provide full funding for Streamline, it is to valuable to cut.
