HomeMy WebLinkAbout5-30-2020 Public Comment - E. Mason - Opposed to REMUFrom:Emily Mason To:Agenda Subject:Proposed Commercial Development Between W. Graf & Goldenstein Date:Saturday, May 30, 2020 7:04:20 AM Dear City Commissioners, I am writing to you to express my extreme opposition to the proposed commercial development located between W. Graf and Goldenstein Ln. The people who live in this area, bought homes here precisely because it is NOT commercial, but residential in nature. It is enough that the corner of Kagy and 19th will be turned into the 'the next downtown.' Mostresidents do not want this type of commercial development here and we certainly don't need another large plot dedicated to more commercial development. This proposal only benefits thedevelopers who are salivating at the prospect of the money they will make. It is almost laughable - if not totally absurd - that the city even consider turning the proposed area into commercial development during the COVID pandemic which has effectively shutdown all office and retail spaces across the country. Bozeman needs to rethink how it is choosing to grow - less commercial, retail space, more open space is really the only intelligentgrowth plan. I do hope that the City Manager you hired from Fort Collins comes here with a sense of what not to do to ruin a lovely, small agricultural town (as is what happened to Fort Collins). If thisproposed commercial development is approved, it will be clear that the City is far more concerned with lining developers pockets than it is with maintaining the character of theBozeman we all know and love. I do hope that the Bozeman City Commission, along with the new City Manager, shape a Bozeman that honors it's small, agricultural history while focusing on smart, climate-friendlygrowth policies. We certainly do not need any more developments like this proposed commercial development on the south side of town. Thank you for your time, Emily K. Mason 2703 Westridge Dr. 59715
