RE: Letter of Support from GGHAC
Application Number 2O145—Support of shelter use e\2OI5Wheat Drive
Dear City Commissioners,
The Greater Gallatin Homeless Action Coalition (GGHAC) is pleased to offer support for the HRDC's efforts
to develop a new homeless shelter at2015 Wheat Drive.
Referring to the latest Point In Time Survey, (conducted annually in January in the Bozeman area — 122
responded in 2020), 56 individuals reported living in emergency shelter. 80 of those 122 individuals
served iO the US Armed Forces. The majority VfrespVDde[Snep0rtedbeiDghO(De|2SsfD[ l2rnVnths or
more. Many people who comprise our homeless population have jobs but are unable to afford housing;
many suffer from mental illness; there are children; the number continues to grow.
The 2015 Wheat Drive location can accommodate a larger number of people in need, provide an
increased number of safe, clean shower, laundry, and sleeping facilities, and is easily accessible by bus.
Our hopes are that this shelter would beavailable during day hours and for aD extended season for
nighttime hours.
GGMAC is composed of large group of non-profit organizations, local and state representatives,
veterans, and concerned individuals who work to positively impact the lives of those experiencing
homelessness in our area. A list of our current membership is attached with this letter.
GGHAC remains committed to working with the HRDC, the City of Bozeman, CAHAB, and our partner
agencies to find opportunities which will end homelessness |n our community. Your support ofthis
application brings us@ step closer.
Sincerely,
On behalf ofGGHAC
