First Name Jane Last Name Howard Email Address janebrownhoward@gmail.com Phone Number 3077528716 Comments Dear Mayor Mehl and City Commissioners, Thank you for your renewing the City’s Proclamation Recognizing Equal Pay Day, and for supporting “the creation of a community-led task force, with a commissioner liaison that will provide research, advice, and education on gender-related issues such as pay equity, discrimination, healthcare outcomes, and violence to advance fair and equitable outcomes for all women and girls in our community.” While following and supporting the important work of the local CEDAW Initiative – “Cities for the Elimination of all Forms for Discrimination Against Women and Girls” -I have learned a great deal from their “Report and Recommendations to Advance the Status of Woman and Girls,” September 19, 2019. This report reveals significant gaps in the resources, services, safety, and well-being available to women and girls in the Bozeman area. Besides the gender pay gap, the report shines a light on gender-based violence, economic insecurity (for food, housing, and more), access to reproductive health services, and mental health stressors. While this report is very telling, it only shows part of the picture. As you know from reading the report, one of its primary recommendations revolves around data collection and reporting. I encourage you to carefully review those points and further initiate comprehensive and unified data collection among the entities you influence and with whom you coordinate and collaborate. By systematically beefing up these areas, we will all have a more comprehensive and accurate picture of needs and gaps so we can further our collective action and advocacy based on facts and figures. Thank you again, and for all the good work you do for our community. No easy task, for sure!
