Hello, I am a professor in the MSU Economics Department. I am asking that you strongly consider closing MainStreet to vehicles and making it pedestrian only. This will provide an excellent outdoor public space in the summer,and most importantly, allow restaurants to set up extensive outdoor seating. This will allow them to operate at muchhigher capacity while still practicing social distancing. Further, evidence suggests that the virus has much lowertransmissibility outdoors. Mendenhall and Babcock are more efficient arteries anyway. The only real downside isfurther stress on parking, but I believe that is a small price to pay for the benefits (and there should be a free mainstreet shuttle anyway). Thanks for considering.
