HomeMy WebLinkAbout5-3-2020 - Public Comment - A. Becker - Mountain Vista Subdivision Application 19460From:Andy Becker To:Agenda Cc:"Becker, Katie (katie.becker@bsd7.org)"; Jacob Tomlinson Subject:Mountain Vista Subdivision Application 19460 Date:Sunday, May 3, 2020 6:37:51 PM To whom it may concern, I am writing this in the effort to communicate my extreme displeasure at the proposed “Mountain Vista” subdivision being reviewed by the City of Bozeman. After successfully fending off the preposterous notion of residential high density apartments shoe horned into this parcel of land, the new proposed development isn’t much better. But alas, since it isn’t being upzoned, I see there isn’t a public process to protest, only comment. Last year, I got a glimpse into the minds of the commission and city staff as far as their viewpoints are concerned regarding infill projects within city limits. Unfortunately, there seems to be an overwhelming need to cluster as many units as possible into as little land as possible. All under the assumption that this is some type of solution to the “affordable housing crisis” that prevails in Bozeman. Single family homes have been demonized, and priority has been given repeatedly to developments that contain little, if any, single family homes. After hearing the council debate the zoning issue last year, I realized how out of touch they are with what is really going on in Bozeman in regards to housing. Here is a news flash, most of these developments are occupied by college students and folks with roommates. Which is great, I was both of these at one point in my life. The problem is, for each bedroom built, it equals one car. There is no way that are will hold the amount of vehicles that will be funneling into that piece of property. My street is anchored by two similar developments, and the parking has spilled out into the streets and creates narrow, unsafe streets throughout the subdivision. Of additional concern is the ridiculous 5’ setbacks, combined with the two story structures and 9/12 pitch roofs. I guess that is just life in the big city I suppose. After the time and energy our entire neighborhood spent in last years zoning debacle, quite honestly, I don’t have the time to commit to taking this ridiculous proposition to task. I would just hope that somewhere along the line somebody within the ranks of the City develops some semblance of common sense regarding the growth of this community. As a 20 plus year resident of Bozeman, I have seen quite a few changes, unfortunately very few of them have been for the better. I would encourage the powers that be to take a hard look at the narrow minded approach that is taken with each infill project, and others throughout the community.
