1.1 Engineer's Report
The following Design Report follows the section numbering of Circular DEQ-1-
Standards for Water Works, August, 2014 Section 1.1, Engineer's Report.
1.1.1 General Information
a. The planned water main extension is being designed to serve a portion of the
property contained in C.O.S. 1827A. This project will extend approximately 311
feet of new 8-inch Class 51 D.I.P.water main into the proposed Taco Bell site. The
new 8-inch main will tie into an existing 8-inch stub at the south-west comer of the
proposed Taco Bell site, and continue to the north and capped for future
expansion. Future expansion will connect this capped line and continue an 8-inch
water main extension to the North to connect to an existing 12-inch main that
currently bisects C.O.S. 1827 A. One fire hydrant assembly is proposed for the
project. The project includes a water service to the Taco Bell facility.
b. The proposed water main infrastructure will be served by the City of Bozeman.
c. Project Developer:
VC Development, LLC

Bozeman, MT 59715
d. System Owner.
City of Bozeman
PO Box 1230
Bozeman, Mt 59715
1.1.2 Extent of Water Works System, including;
a. The proposed water main extension is an extension of the City of Bozeman water
infrastructure in the area. The water main extension is proposed for the Taco Bell
facility and future expansion for the remaining parcel of C.O.S. 1827A south of the
existing 12-inch water main (zoned B2, community business). An existing hotel is
3
already located on the parcel (to the west of the proposed Taco Bell facility)and is
served by a water service from the main located in Catamount Street.
b. The project will tie into existing 8-inch Class 51 D.I.P. stub extended from the
existing 8-inch main located in Catamount Street on the south side of the property.
The proposed 8-inch water main extension for Taco Bell site Will capped for a future
extension to service the remaining portion of C.O.S. 1827A south of the existing
12-inch water main that bisects C.O.S. 1827A.
c. The proposed 8-inch water main extension will service the Taco Bell facility site
and will be capped for future connection.
1.1.3 Alternate Plans
The alignment of the proposed main was chosen to meet the layout of the proposed Taco
Bell facility and the future needs for the remaining portion of C.O.S. 1827A south of the
existing 12-inch water main that bisects C.O.S. 1827A.
1.1.4 Site Conditions
a. The proposed Taco Bell facility site has existing grades of less than 4%and mostly
Turner Loam soil deposits.
b. The proposed Taco Bell facility site is favorable for building foundation
construction.
c. The ground water flows from the south to the north and is approximately 5-10 feet
from the existing ground elevations (per Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology
website).
1.1.5 Water Use Data
The following section addresses the design capacity and flow requirements discussed in
Section 8 of DEQ - 1. The proposed water main extension will serve the Taco Bell facility
4
site and the future needs remaining portion of C.O.S. 1827A south of the existing 12-
inch water main that bisects G.O.S. 1827A. The capacity requirement for the water main
extension is calculated as follows:
Paco Bell Flows:
Assumptions:
Zoned B2 (per the City of Bozeman's Capital Planning) = 2,000
GAUACRE/DAY (COB Design Standards Table V-1, page 52)
Taco Bell facility site is 1.58 Acres
Average Daily Flow(ADF)_ (2,000 GAL./ACRE/DAY)*(1.58 ACRES)
3160 gpd= 2.19 gpm
Peak Hour Daily Flow(MDF) = 3.0 x Avg. Day= 3.0*2.19 = 6.57 gpm
Remaining Parcel of C.O.S. 1827A south of the existing 12-inch water main that
bisects C.O.S. 1827A:
Assumptions:
Zoned B2 (per the City of Bozeman's Capital Planning) = 2,000
GAL./ACRE/DAY(COB Design Standards Table V 1, page 52)
Remaining Parcel of C.O.S. 1827A south of Public Road 1 is 10.5 Acres
Average Daily Flow(ADF)_ (2,000 GAL./ACRE/DAY)*(10.5 ACRES)
=21,000 gpd = 14.58 gpm
Peak Hour Daily Flow(MDF) = 3.0 x Avg. Day= 3.0*14.58 =43.74 gpm
Irrigation Demands:
Assumptions:
30 inches*acres/year will be used for irrigation
30% of the site will be irrigated
Taco Bell facility= 1.58 acres
Area to be irrigated = 1.58 acres *30% =0.47 acres
6
30 inches*acres/year*0.47 acres = 14.1 inches*acre/year
14.1 inches*acre/year= 382,849 gallons/year
382,849 gallons/year= 1049 gpd = 0.73 gpm
Peak Hour Daily Flow(MDF) = 3.0 x Avg. Day = 3.0*0.73 =2.19 gpm
Assumptions:
30 inches*acres/year will be used for irrigation
30% of the site will be irrigation
Remaining Parcel of C.O.S. 1827A south of the 12-inch water main that
bisects C.O.S. 1827A= 10.5 acres ,
Area to be irrigated = 10.5 acres * 30% = 3.15 acres
30 inches*acres/year* 3.15 acres = 94.5 inches*acre/year
94.5 inches*acre/year=2,565,902 gallons/year
2,565,902 gallons/year= 7,030 gpd =4.88 gpm
Peak Hour Daily Flow(MDF) = 3.0 x Avg. Day= 3.0*4.88 = 14.64 gpm
Total Peak Flour Flow=6.57 gpm+43.74 gpm+2.19 gpm + 14.64 gpm
= 67.14 9Rm
1.1.6 Flow requirements
a. Average Daily Flow: 22.38 gpm
Maximum Daily Flow: 67.14 gpm
Minimum Working Pressure: 35 psi
Minimum Pressure for Fire Flow: 20 psi
b. Fire flows are based on the City of Bozeman Fire Department requirements for this
commercial development of 1,500 gpm for a 2- hour duration. Attachment A
calculations show that there will be sufficient pressure for fire flow.
i
6
Per the City of Bozeman Water Facility Plan 2006, a fire hydrant located less than 600
feet to the north of the proposed fire hydrant has a max day pressure of 9246 gpm at a
residual pressure of 20 PSI.
1.1.7 Sources of Water Supply
Water is supplied from City of Bozeman.
1.1.8 Proposed Treatment Processes:
Non-applicable.
1.1.9 Sewage System Available
The area is served by the City of Bozeman wastewater treatment facility
1.1.10 Waste Disposal
Non-applicable.
1.1.11 Automation
Non-applicable.
1.1.12 Project Sites
a. The project site has been zoned B-2 by the City of Bozeman.
b. The project site has been zoned B-2 by the City of Bozeman. The existing site is
bound by Catamount Street to the South and East Valley Center Road to the East
and an access road to the west, and an undeveloped field to the North.
c. The wastewater at the site will be conveyed to the City of Bozeman wastewater
treatment facility.
1.1.13 Financing
Non-applicable.
i
7
1.1.14 Future Extensions
A future 8-inch water main extension will connect to the capped 8-inch main line and will
serve remaining portion of C.O.S. 1827A south of the existing 12-inch water main that
bisects C.O.S. 1827A.
