This property consists of one historical architectural feature: a house built in 1920 and later remodeled in 2001. The house is a wood-
framed, single-story house with a 1.5-story addition. The plan is an L-shape, with a concrete foundation. The original portion of the house is side-gabled, with subtle, modern faux-Craftsman elements including cedar shingles around the primary entry. The rear
addition is also side-gabled, but with an additional half story. The roof is covered in asphalt shingles. The exterior walls are clad in horizontal wood drop siding.
The primary façade faces north, onto W Lamme St. The primary entry is accessed by a couple of concrete steps. Most of the original
windows have been replaced, but the openings are intact, and appear to be fixed, casement, and three-over-one double-hung windows.
Behind the house, accessed by the alleyway, is a modern detached two-stall garage with an apartment above. This structure was built in 2002. It follows a similar style of the remodeled house, clearly using modern materials to evoke a Craftsman style. The primary
entry is directly to the west of the enclosed vehicle entry and to the east of an open but covered vehicle parking space. Above the open parking space is the western half of the apartment with a recessed porch.
The site is well-maintained. Vegetation in the front yard includes growing deciduous trees, and mature coniferous trees. A row of
mature deciduous trees and bushes line the eastern boarder of the property. A large empty lot is located to the east of the property, and consists of mostly grass and a few small deciduous trees.
The property was first recorded in August 1984 by James R. McDonald Architects. At that time, the property had not yet reached the
fifty-year threshold for consideration as a historic property and was considered an “intrusive element within a potential historic district.” Since then, the property has come of age. The site is in good condition overall, but does not retain sufficient integrity to
convey historic character.

HISTORY OF PROPERTY This property is located within Tracy’s 2nd Addition which was platted May 16, 1883 by William H. Tracy. John H. Dawes purchased
the property from William and Sarah Tracy on February 9, 1889. Dawes owned it a short time, before selling the property to George L. Short on January 22, 1890. George and Belle Short were married on July 30, 1889 in Bozeman, MT. Belle Short filed for divorce
in 1891 stating that George Short had deserted and abandoned her. She was awarded a divorce and also awarded Lots 39 and 40 in Block E of Tracy’s 2nd Addition (Ancestry.com 2016). Belle Short sold the property to John Lane on October 14, 1891. The 1891
Sanborn Fire Insurance Map shows a structure on the property in 1891. Lane sold the property to L.W. Orvis and James H. Chambers on February 4, 1892. James Chambers held the property for almost twelve years until May 21, 1904, when he sold it to Sarah Lowe.
Harry A. Bolinger purchased the property on September 15, 1904 from Sarah M. Lowe. Harry A. Bolinger was born in Redfield,
Kansas on November 30, 1872 to Adam and Margaret Bolinger. He came to Montana and first lived in Townsend before moving to Butte where he was assistant city attorney from 1901 to 1903 (The Independent-Record 22 June 1950). In Bozeman he served as the Bozeman city attorney and the Gallatin county attorney. He later served as judge of the 18th judicial district of Gallatin County from 1947 to 1948. He was also a grand master of the Montana IOOF Lodge (The Great Falls Tribune 22 June 1950). Harry Bolinger
married Mary E. McIntosh in Rocky Ford, CO on July 8, 1902 (Ancestry.com 2016). Mary Elizabeth McIntosh was born on February 20, 1877 in Bourbon County, Kansas to Daniel McVicar and Sierra Nevada McIntosh (Findagrave.com 2004). Harry Bolinger died on
June 21, 1950. Mary died on September 6, 1967 in Pomona, Los Angeles County, California. Harry and Mary are buried together in Sunset Hills Cemetery in Bozeman, MT. Harry and Mary Bolinger lived at this property until 1913. Charles King purchased the property from Harry and Mary Bolinger on October 28, 1913. Charles Elmo King was born on July 19,
1884 in Randall, Jewell County, Kansas (Findagrave.com 2004). In 1890, when Charles was a young boy, he traveled to Fort Benton with his family, where they settled. In 1905, Charles came to Bozeman where he attended Montana State College. He decided to stay
in Bozeman and was a clerk at the Thomas Rea Co. until he accepted a position as steam boiler engineer for Gallatin Laundry in 1921
(Great Falls Tribune 1 March 1956). Charles married Ella Railey on August 30, 1908 in Bozeman, MT. Ella (Railey) King had been born on January 28, 1884 in Gallatin Gateway, MT. Charles King died on February 26, 1956 and Ella King died on March 12, 1964. They are buried together in Sunset Hills Cemetery in Bozeman, MT. Charles King sold the property to his wife Ella on April 11, 1924.
Ella King sold the property to her son, Charles Harold King, on September 14, 1956. Charles Harold King sold the property to Raymond E. Shadoan on January 10, 1973.
The property is currently owned by Roger and Jane Harris as of 2019 (Table 1).

STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
The property was first recorded in 1984 by James R. McDonald Architects. At that time, the property had not yet reached the fifty-year threshold for consideration as a historic property and was considered an “intrusive element within a potential historic district.”
Since then, the property has come of age. There are numerous changes since this previous survey, although the original survey does state that design and materials have changed since its original construction. The site is in good condition overall, but Metcalf finds that
it does not retain sufficient integrity to convey historic character.
This site has been evaluated for eligibility against the NRHP Criteria. It is found to lack integrity sufficient to convey historic character in reference to associations with events that have made a significant contribution to the broad patterns of our history under
Criterion A, historically significant persons under Criterion B, characteristics of a type, period, or method of construction under Criterion C, and it is unlikely to yield important information in reference to research questions under Criterion D. Metcalf
recommends this site not eligible for inclusion on the NRHP.

The site is in good condition, overall. The materials, design, and feeling have all been affected by the remodel and additions made to original house in 2001, as well as the additional detached garage and apartment built in 2002. Metcalf finds that it does not retain
