To the City of Bozeman Commissioners:
I have followed with interest the ongoing issues in relation to the Etha hotel (old Armory). I understand that there is
a need for rules and requirements for buildings….and even for the buildings to have a certain “look”. However, I
am very appalled by the fact that someone can send in a comment AFTER a building is built and almost completed
to say they don’t like how it looks????? Or that the finish doesn’t meet some requirement? I just cannot imagine
that it is even acceptable. While the building might not be “exactly” like everyone would want….is it possible you
could say: “We are here now. What can we do to make this work??” The Armory was a boarded up building that
needed a tremendous risk and effort to rehabilitate. Now it is been preserved for the community and will provide
functional use for downtown.
The City of Bozeman should consider the fact that re-doing some of the things such as mechanical systems or
exteriors will have a structural impact on the building. Is there actually a Bozeman or Building code violation that
created the issue from 2015 or is this a result of the city of Bozeman not coordinating their own internal
departments? This makes no sense that a developer can complete a building over 2 years in a highly visible part of
Bozeman and be nearly complete before the City discovers an issue. Please consider how it looks from the outside
that your internal departments are not working together to follow the “flow” of the work….that one area (planning)
…doesn’t know what another area (building) is doing???
Life is crazy right now…please release the building to be finished.
Thank you for all your work during this very frustrating time with the COVID….I hope all of you are remaining
safe from the virus and that you are able to continue that way.
