Commissioners,
On tonight's agenda there are two appeals on which I would like to make
comment. Having watched the process of the design, review, and
construction of the Etha Hotel it seems that this late concern for
matters that have already been approved is based seemingly in a false
narrative derived from both initial incompetence on the part of the City
Planner in charge of the Armory Hotel Project and on a competitor's
mudslinging.
1) Regarding the Etha Hotel LLC's Appeal to move forward with current
building materials, and not be required to alter the exterior to meet a
standard (if it was so vitally important) that should have been flagged
by the Planning Department years ago, I write in support of the Armory
Hotel Project being allowed to continue without alteration to its "EIFS"
exterior.
2) Regarding concern of Downtown Bozeman neighbors that they are being
affected by the relocation of equipment and lighting aspects of the
Hotel, it seems that the complainants have no standing in regard to the
lighting because they had ample Public Comment time to file concerns and
did not do so. As for the Mechanical Equipment movement, one has to
wonder how much noise, greater than traffic noise, will be generated by
the equipment so as to determine that this major systems relocation be
necessary. When purchasing property in an Urban downtown corridor, one
agrees, de facto, to a certain amount of sound and light intrusion.
I write in support of the Commissioners allowing the Armory Hotel
Project to move forward to completion without requiring the Developers
to modify the exterior, relocate mechanical equipment, or change current
approved lighting. The way I see it, the Armory was a rotting building,
abandoned by past owners, when the current owners came in, made a MAJOR
investment in this town and the tourism on which we depend, and we
should allow the owners to complete their mission and provide much
needed jobs and improvements to help support Bozeman's economy and well
being.
Thank you for your consideration and your service to Bozeman.
Sincerely,
Bennett Drozic
