Schultz - Please Open More Garden PlotsFrom:Christian Schultz To:Agenda Subject:Please Open More Garden Plots Date:Thursday, April 2, 2020 3:19:21 PM Hello, My name is Chris Schultz. I live at 3891 E Baxter Ave in Bozeman. I would like to request that the City of Bozeman find more places for garden plots, expand current garden plots andexpedite the waiting list for acquiring garden plot space. I have been on the City’s long waiting list for a garden for 2 years and it doesn’t seem to be opening up. There are only 2 community gardens available, which is not enough. I think thereare many residents like me, who need to plant a garden this summer to grow vegetables for our families. We know there are leaner financial times ahead and I know I can save money, feedmy family and grow good nutritious food if given a small plot of soil and water. I would like to see the City use it’s resources to help open up spaces for gardening in or close to more neighborhoods on the west side of Bozeman, like Baxter Meadows. Small corners oflarge open space parks and neighborhood parks could easily become community garden areas. I understand that many HOA’s are responsible for neighborhood parks, like the Oak Springspark. Perhaps some kind of deal could be cut with them in order to use part of the park for community gardens. Designated “opportunity zone” land could also be used for gardening and small organicfarming, instead of consigned to suburban development. If there needs to be a subcommittee formed to research and identify potential locations, I would be happy to help form such a committee. Please let me know how I could proceed and how you may proceed. I will be watching theCity Commission Special Meeting. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Chris Schultz
