Hand - Essential relief for those most impacted by coronavirusFrom:Erica Hand To:Agenda Subject:Essential relief for those most impacted by coronavirus Date:Friday, March 27, 2020 1:00:44 AM Bozeman City Commission, I'm worried about our service workers during the pandemic. They are the largest group of workers in the state, but many do not have sick pay or health insurance, and are living paycheck to paycheck. They are protecting the rest of us by stocking grocery shelves, fillings prescriptions, and taking out the trash. Most of them are also renters. The government is providing relief for businesses, homeowners, and even landlords, but almost nothing for renters who are days away from homelessness if they miss a payment. Measures like expanded unemployment are good, but they still leave many workers at risk. We can do more. - Will you publicly call on businesses to do all they possibly can to pay their employees to stay home during this time? - Will you publicly call on commercial and residential landlords to waive or reduce rents as much as possible? - Will you urge Governor Bullock to use his emergency powers to suspend rent and mortgage payments (including commercial leases for small businesses) so that our essential workers are protected and others can safely stay home? Thank you for your time and urgent attention. If we act quickly, we can protect our most vulnerable during this difficult time.
