I'm writing to urge the commission to amend the city's annual budget to add an appropriation of $296,520
in the Workforce Housing Fund for a grant to HRDC for Warming Center improvements.
As the Warming Center's Outreach and Operations Manager for the past three winters, I have directly
witnessed the struggle to adequately house the most at-risk members of our community. The Warming
Center is a life-saving resource for many Bozemanites, and this is a rare opportunity to have a level of
shelter services that meets the current need. The Warming Center has operated near or at capacity many
nights over the past three winters, putting in jeopardy its mission to make sure nobody in Bozeman freezes
to death outside.
Emergency shelter is workforce housing, and this appropriation will help ensure that ALL of Bozeman's
workforce has a place to sleep at night.
