Hi, Chris--
I write to you about two issues of concern to the home owners association in Meadow Creek (off of Graf Streetbehind the Hope Lutheran church).
First, there is a piece of property bordered by 27th and Kurk Street owned by Diane Brawner. It is currentlymaintained as agricultural land. This piece of land was originally purchased by Diane's husband, who was a retiredecology professor at MSU. He died not too long ago, and had been his intention to preserve it from development.Well, since he passed, Ms. Brawner has been approached many times by developers to sell. As of August this pastyear, it was not her intention to sell but to leave it as agricultural land.
The Board is wondering what we might be able to do in order to assist in protecting that land from developmentwith a conservation easement. There's a nice stand of trees along a creek that hosts a lot of wildlife, including manyraptors. We are concerned that the development of Gran Cielo may hasten efforts to purchase and develop this land. Are there options for the city to get involved? I know one of residents Meadow Creek, Lara Schulz, approachedGallatin Valley Land Trust--but the property is not part of their strategic plan for conservation. I would love any andall thoughts as to how best to proceed.
Second, there is a problem with parking along Enterprise Lane--particularly in the winter--along those twoapartment/condo developments to the North and South of Graf. Quite simply put, in the winter, with parking onBOTH sides of the street, the street essentially reduces to one lane. This has to be particularly problematic foremergency vehicles needing access. Is there any chance we could think of ways to restrict parking to one side of thestreet?
That's what I have on my to do list. Would appreciate your thoughts and advice.
Best,
Dave Parker
