Subject: Responsibility of City Commission
Dear Mayor Mehl,
I am deeply concerned after researching the City of Bozeman’s recent notification
of closures and cancellations. It appears that the City government, businesses, and
residents are all taking this emergency shut down seriously, except for the
Commission. Am I wrong that all public meetings or gatherings are cancelled
except Commission meetings, which are most likely to draw crowds of citizens?
Surely a City that is so proud that they won’t shut off services to citizens who are
economically affected by these emergency measures would not hold meetings in
which public participation is so critical and in which votes are cast that critically
affect the citizens’ lives. I strongly urge you to cancel all but the most pertinent,
time-sensitive decision-making votes. And publicly assure the community of
this.
To do anything otherwise ahead of the next meeting would be a serious breach of
trust, and possibly illegal in the face of this pandemic.
Sincerely,
Katharine Seipel
