Hello again: So, apparently, my email was not received last week before the ill fated
meeting? Well, even though commissioners Andrus, Mehl and Cunningham voted for
the parking buffer zones, I am still forwarding this message on to you. I couldn't
bring myself to attend the meeting last week. The first one was torturous enough.
However, I watched the entire meeting---well, apparently the cameras shut off when
the audience let their feelings be known during the commissioners comments, and
the police were called in. No one reported that, though, did they? I did hear Deputy
Mayor Andrus' condescending, fully prepared, speech however. Which, to me, meant
she didn't listen at all, and already had her mind made up. I voted for you Deputy
Mayor Andrus---a huge mistake I feel after seeing how you work in this commission.
It is so obvious, from all of the citizens who wrote or stood up to speak, that you have
failed us. And, it began with the approval of the developments---mainly by Home
Base, but other developers as well. Deputy Andrus, you said in your speech, that you
can change your mind about the parking buffer zones. I believe you should be
changing your minds about the ugly developments that you are allowing to bleed into
our residential neighborhoods.
It is evident that the majority of the affected citizens DO NOT approve of the parking
buffer zones. It is time for you to work for the people who elected you---not the
wealthy developers who have no consideration for sensitivity to the surrounding
environments of their disgusting buildings. Respectfully, or at this point, not so
respectfully, Renee Gebhardt

Subject: PARKING BUFFER ZONE
Dear City Commissioners: I attended last month's hellaciously long meeting because
I am concerned about the proposal initiated by the Parking Commission. I have lived
at 414 N. Bozeman Ave. for 34 years, and in Bozeman for 44 years. I understand
that change is inevitable, however, I feel that the need for a parking buffer zone could
have been avoided by not allowing so many multi-use, luxury condo/apartments being
built so close to R2 zones. The lack of integrity by the developers has added to this
conundrum. It is the city commissions' job to listen to those who elected them---not
just money-driven developers, and I feel that there is a huge imbalance.
The point that rubs me wrong every time I read the proposal is that residents/property
owners would get first dibs at buying parking permits. Residents, including renters
and property owners, as well as their visitors, should not have to purchase permits
period. AND, they should not have to put up with spillover traffic from downtown.
Maybe it's back to the drawing board, and a re-examination of what "infill" looks like. I
certainly didn't foresee it as a move to draw in the super wealthy. I was hoping that it
would mean more single to perhaps 4 plex affordable homes, not ugly luxury condos
that shadow over single dwellings.
I know you all work very hard, and the parking commission has as well, but,
unfortunately, this is not the answer. Keep our public residential streets as they are
please. Thank you, Renee
