The site number assigned is 24GA1730. Spoke with the owner who has owned it since 1998. It was a rental, but has stood vacant for several years. The owner intends to demolish it someday. The buildings in back consist of a modern machine shed/shop which is still used and a historic shed with wood siding and green trim. According to the owner, it was moved to the property in the 90s, possibly from the Gallatin Gateway area. The site is unchanged since 2006, and is in declining condition. Metcalf visited the site in October 2019 and noted further condition degradation of the house, garage, and outbuilding. Additional information about the property was obtained during a Metcalf visit with the current owner, who revealed that one of the previously recorded sheds had been moved onto the property from another location, possibly from the Gallatin Gateway area, in the 1990s. The feature referred to is the narrow rectangular gable-roof shed with wood-siding. The current owner has been the owner of record since 1998. The property has been a rental for many years, and has been vacant in recent years. The owner expressed his intention to demolish the structures on the property. Additional information about the property was obtained during the Metcalf investigations. MONTANA HISTORIC PROPERTY RECORD PAGE 5 Statement of Significance Property Name: 922 N ROUSE AVE Site Number: 24GA1730 NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES NRHP Listing Date: NRHP Eligibility: Yes No Individually Contributing to Historic District Noncontributing to Historic District NRHP Criteria: A B C D Area of Significance: Period of Significance: STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE In 2006, Renewable Technologies, Inc. of Butte, Montana recorded the property and concluded that the house itself was potentially significant as a representative example of vernacular residential architecture, and for its association with the growth and agricultural history of Bozeman. However, it was noted that the building suffered from alterations that diminished its historic integrity. Because of this loss of integrity, it was considered not individually eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. Metcalf concurs with this assessment. MONTANA HISTORIC PROPERTY RECORD PAGE 6 Integrity Property Name: 922 N ROUSE AVE Site Number: 24GA1730 INTEGRITY (location, design, setting, materials, workmanship, feeling, association) Deferred maintenance has resulted in a steadily declining condition. The asbestos siding, detailed as non-original by RTI, Inc. in 2006, is cracked, revealing the original wood lap siding underneath. Posts suffer from dry rot. The foundation has numerous cracked areas, and there is active spalling. The asphalt roof shingles are warped with age and exposure. It is noted the original wood sashes are intact, but exist in poor condition. Metcalf concurs with the RTI opinion that the property retains integrity of location and setting and that the continuing deterioration affects all other aspects of integrity.
