Architectural Description
Property Name: Site Number: 061 ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION Architectural Style: Queen Anne If Other, specify: Property Type: Commerce Specific Property Type: Law office Architect: Unknown Architectural Firm/City/State: Unknown Builder/Contractor: Unknown Company/City/State: Unknown Source of Information: N/A
The property consists of two historical architectural features: a house built c. 1890, and a detached garage built in 1950. The house is a wood-frame, two and a half story residential structure in the Queen Anne style. The building was originally a single-story house (McDonald 1984). It was eventually added onto and converted for commercial use. Basement windows are visible and clearly indicate that the basement is also currently being used as commercial space. It has a rectangular plan, but the original foundation was not visible at the time of the survey, due to a remodel possibly completed in 1998. The roof is a front gable, with two small gabled dormers protruding from the center, one on both the east and west sides. The exterior walls are clad in horizontal vinyl siding, with stucco over the exposed portions of the foundation. The second story has a recessed deck with ornately carved wood railing in the northeast corner of the front north façade (part of the 1998 remodel). The primary façade faces north onto W Lamme St. The main entrance is above grade with concrete steps and metal hand rails leading up to a concrete porch (also part of the 1998 remodel). The entryway has been completely altered and replaced. It consists of a wood door with fixed side lites. Most of the windows have been replaced with vinyl sash. The windows observed from the public ROW include single hung on the east and west sides as well as within the attic/roof gables (both north and south), and also within the gabled dormers. The front north facing façade has single hung windows on either side of a fixed window on both the first and second story. In 1950, a detached garage (Feature 2) was added in the back yard, south of the house, and accessed by an alleyway. It is a front gabled, single-stall structure, with a small window at least on the west side. The exterior is clad in horizontal wood siding, and the vehicle entry has a row of opaque windows near the top. The site is well maintained and features a mature coniferous tree on the north side of the front sidewalk, and deciduous bushes along the property’s east and west borders. The backyard has more deciduous bushes and trees to the south of the house.

History of Property
Property Name: 602 W LAMME ST Site Number: 061
HISTORY OF PROPERTY This house was erected in 1890 according to property records. However, it does not appear on the 1891 Sanborn Fire Insurance
Company map. When originally recorded in 1984, the house was a single-story gable-front structure. McDonald noted the date of construction as 1909 and the original owner as J.S. Woosley. Metcalf is inclined to agree with McDonald’s assessment that the
building dates to the first decade of the 20th Century. A cursory search through City Directories, obituaries, and census records revealed no further information regarding the original owner. The detached garage was added to the property in 1950. In 1998, the house was extensively remodeled and 1.5 stories added. The property is in excellent condition and has experienced several modifications over time.
Current survey data are insufficient to determine significant associations.

Statement of Significance
Property Name: 602 W LAMME ST Site Number: 061
NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES NRHP Listing Date: NRHP Eligibility: Yes No Individually Contributing to Historic District Noncontributing to Historic District
NRHP Criteria: A B C D Area of Significance: Period of Significance:
STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE Metcalf has made a preliminary field assessment regarding the potential eligibility of this site. Extensive remodeling and replacement
of original materials has had a cumulative effect on the site’s eligibility. It is found to lack integrity sufficient to convey historic character in reference to associations with events that have made significant contribution to the broad patterns of our history under Criterion A, historically significant persons under Criterion B, characteristics of a type, period, or method of construction under Criterion C, and it is unlikely to yield important information in reference to research questions under Criterion D. Metcalf
recommends this site not eligible for inclusion in the NRHP.

Integrity
Property Name: 602 W LAMME ST Site Number: 061
INTEGRITY (location, design, setting, materials, workmanship, feeling, association)
The site is in excellent condition, overall. Integrity of location and setting remain intact, however, the remodel in 1998 significantly altered the exterior aesthetic of this 19th century residence, compromising integrity of design, materials, workmanship, and feeling of
the original building. Metcalf finds the property retains insufficient integrity to convey its historic character.
