Subject: Ordinance 2033 Downtown Parking Management District - disapproval
Date: Sunday, March 1, 2020 7:12:28 PM
Dear Bozeman City Commissioners:
I would like to voice my concern and vehement disagreement to the proposed ordinance 2033.
I have lived on the 600 block of North Willson Ave for over 28 years, and my husband has lived here
for over 38 years. NEVER has anyone parked on our block for downtown events, let alone for
shopping and dining.
We are 7 blocks from downtown main street. We should NOT be included in the parking
management district or parking benefits zone. I have never seen anyone park beyond the 300 block,
if that, for anything! If anyone parks on our block, it has been for the Gallatin County Fairgrounds
events and that has occurred approximately three times in all of these years.
This district is an overreach. We have small older (historical?) single family dwellings, most with no
garage, and very little, if any, driveway. We rely on street parking. In fact, our family and friends
leave their cars on our block, while we carpool together to Bridger Bowl, since we live on the
northern reach of the city limits. What do we do, if one of us isn’t skiing, and a friend or family
comes to visit for the day? Where do they park? What about our friends who are 75-85 years old
and need a cane? Where will they park? What about families and friends with infants in car seats?
What about when we need to unload groceries? What about when we have family birthdays,
dinners, gatherings, meetings at our house? Where will everyone park after 5 pm and on weekends,
let alone during the day? Two permits per household?? And we have to pay to park in front of our
own home? We pay city and county property taxes. This is a ridiculous proposal. Not necessary. An
overreach. To a problem that does not exist. And a major disruption to our life.
Our block need not, and should not be in this district. This is distressing. Currently, there are at least
9 high rise construction developments within .5 mile of our residence. We have been dealing with
their construction zones, and the repercussions of their development and business. Who are these
developers? How much are they profiting for our loss of quality of life? Their only goal, is to put
money in their pockets. How are they benefitting me, us? Why are you approving every single one
of these? What are they contributing to our neighborhoods and the city of Bozeman? Money vs.
quality of life. Why do any of us live here?
This is an unnecessary RIDICULOUS proposal. This is a quality of life issue. Please, DO NOT APPROVE
THIS DOWNTOWN PARKING MANAGEMENT DISTRICT. You will destroy our long held love of
Bozeman and quality of life.
Sincerely,
Jill Abbott-Stoltzfus
