The Commission itself has created the parking problem in downtown Bozeman and downtown neighborhoods by acceding to the demands of developers for relief from providing adequate parking for the residents, guests, and patrons of buildings proposed and now (too many) built. You even felt it appropriate to squander the limited number of spots in our downtown garage by leasing them to such developments. If you felt a revenue source from that garage necessary, why did you not lease spaces to downtown businesses for their employees and customers? And now you are proposing that residents of long-established downtown neighborhoods bear the burden of such senseless, and questionably motivated, decisions. One of Bozeman's most attractive attributes, and one that many cities wish they could replicate, has been its vibrant middle and working class downtown neighborhoods, where families (not apartment dwellers) live, work, go to school, grow gardens and work. This proposal, like so many you've made in the past several years, will further burden this overtaxed and under supported heart of the city. The developers should pay for the mess they've made, not the people who you should be serving.
