To Whom it May Concern:
Rules and processes exist for a reason. All of us are expected to abide by the rules established by the
City, without exception.
I am writing to oppose the Site Plan Modification proposed by the developer/design team for the
Etha Hotel project. The fact this developer and his design team failed to obtain City Planning
approval AND neglected to inform the public of these significant proposed changes prior to start of
construction is reckless, at best. Contrary to what the developer is claiming, the City is not to blame.
The process to apply for modifications is very clear and each developer/property owner in Bozeman
is expected to follow this process, without exception.
As the owner/developer and resident of 5 West, this act of defiance is particularly concerning. We
sold 42 residential homes and leased almost 40,000 square feet of commercial space with the
original Etha Hotel design as the neighbor directly across Mendenhall. The proposed changes are
extensive and if allowed to remain, would undoubtably hurt values for the people and businesses
who reside in the 5 West project.
The City must deny this Site Plan Modification Application and require the Etha project team to
modify the building to its originally approved design. Short of a denial, this would set a precedent
whereby all developers/property owners would be allowed to make changes without consequence.
We remain excited for the Etha Hotel project to open its doors, as originally designed.
