To whomever this may concern,
Hello, my name is Alex Chase and I work and live just outside Bozeman. I have worked at West Paw for over
a year now and previously worked at Bequet Confections (Four Corners) for over three years. I've lived in
and out of Bozeman since I was 3 (living mostly in Belgrade), I am now 20. I have been driving in this
beautiful area sine I was 14 1/2, that being said I've also witnessed 5 winters, Three accidents I was partial
to blame in, countless incidence involving peers/fellow drivers and every single close call I have been
involved in has been in the winter. Not to mention flipped Semi's and cars, spun out people on the highway
and just generally a LOT of ruined days caused by icy roads. Now I know that winter driving is difficult and
you must be very vigilant if you hope to avoid any misfortune on the road, however I personally can't help
but feel that there is a simple solution. I feel that we choose to plow our snow at a horrible time of day, or
at least with our modern ability to track weather we can be more preemptive about when we send out
plows. Usually by the time we start plowing there has already been an entire nights worth of stoners, night
owls, delivery services, late workers, young adults, police cars, semi-trucks and any other misc. people out
on the road packing the snow down. I personally have been almost all of these, I get off work at 11:30
currently and was a delivery driver in the past, I also have worked a few Early morning shifts and
understand how atrocious the roads/drivers can be. Now I do not claim to know everything about
Bozeman, because I don't, however I believe that if we plowed in the later evening/early morning we would
have far clearer roads that will not form ice as easily, due to the fact that the snow is removed before
6:30AM-8AM traffic. The snow might be less likely to get so compact and slippery, plus (if this is successful)
we might be able to reduce the amount of salt used on the roads. At the very least the plows would have
less traffic to be concerned about and we might reduce the number of accidents. I am sure there is more to
be considered on this topic, like safety concerns relating to the eligibility and/or age of the driver as well as
finding willing able people to brave this late night schedule. Of course people are likely to desire a higher
pay for running the trucks at night, however I deeply feel that we can improve our city and the stress of the
wonderful residence that live, work, and venerate this glorious valley. Thank you for taking the time to read
this and I hope you have great day! (P.S. It is not super important for me to be contacted on this matter, I
just though it would be real neat if this influenced a change for the better.)
