Beswick To:Agenda Subject:Ellen Theatre sign Date:Tuesday, February 25, 2020 3:55:19 PM Dear Commissioners and Mayor Mehl, I am writing in support of a variance for The Ellen Theatre sign (reference #19418), whichwill be discussed on Monday, March 2. The Ellen Theatre is a landmark business and a piece of Bozeman's historical past that adds intrinsic, cultural, and economic value to Main Street, Downtown Bozeman, and ourcommunity. In a time when towns are struggling to remain viable or succumbing to "anywhere USA," Bozeman stands out as a success. We marvel at recent renovations on Main Street tobring buildings back to their original glory. This model of the original Ellen sign would be a point of pride, even though slightly smaller than the initial one. Given his past work, we knowthat Ole Nelson will create a beautiful, authentic sign for the grand old theatre. As the co-editor of "Bozeman From the Heart," I know how much this town and our Main Street "bricks" mean to people -- from the stories within, the incredible book sales, and thecomments I've received from many, many people. Indeed, The Ellen is a featured story -- about turning 100, no less -- as well as the host our book launch to full house. The communitywill relish in knowing that the original look has been restored. Thank you for considering this variance and continuing a tradition of our small town honoring its past. Warm regards,Paula Paula K.
