Hi!
I'm writing in regards to the Etha hotel in the old armory building and was just like to voice my opposition
to the modifications recently submitted. There is absolutely no need for more lights to be added to this
building. I'm guessing that it is well lit in the first place and we are not building the Empire State Building or
Sears Tower so there's nothing to justify a further highlighting of this building. One of the great things
about living here used to be the lack of light pollution and this is quickly changing. I live off Valley Center
and the new lights stemming from the car dealerships on Huffine (many miles away from my house), the
lights from the new roundabout at Baxter and Love Lane and many other places have greatly affected the
night sky from my house. When I moved here in 2002, I was absolutely amazed at that clarity of the night
sky and it was a great draw for me. By expanding light pollution you are diminishing some of the attributes
that draw people to move to and live in our great city. Also, by ok'ing the modifications, you are setting a
precedent for other construction projects to do the same and once that starts, it doesn't stop. We all know
this. I want my kids to be able to see the same thing I did have. Please do not accept any modifications to
the Etha hotel. The bottom line is they do not need it for any functional use - it's only to highlight
something that is already huge and an eyesore in the city.
Thanks,
Chris Ryan
