I was the property recently individually annexed so I am now officially a City ofBozeman property. I am now hoping to take on trying to get the city to put speed bumps along this street. I live on the corner of Mendenhall and 25th. I watch people daily speed down ourstreet going 50+ miles per hour as I am walking my 2.5 year old out to our car. We also have no sidewalks to even buffer the street and one of our 100+ year old trees that used to besomewhat of a buffer had to be removed when we tied into city water and sewer in December. I know my husband came and spoke to the commission about the hardship of annexation onour family but we are young enough to eventually recover from that financial strain. What is worrying me more than the $35k it took to annex is our street. This is a safety issue. I am continually worried that someone is going to get killed on ourstreet, specifically one of our children, and I would really like to work to have that not happen. Our neighborhood is full of young families with young children that walk and ride bikes onour streets. Our good friends live up the street on the curve of the dog leg on 25th and have had no less that 7 accidents at that curve in the last 2 weeks alone. There is a fair amount offoot traffic as well with no street lights. I am willing to get petitions signed, or whatever we need to figure out a solution to this problem. I know my neighborhood is on board with this issue as it's always a complaint whenwe organize around a topic. The city has not been forced to address this because of the county status of most of the neighborhood, but the MAJORITY of 25th street is city property. Thereis even a city park that my children love to play in that is abandoned on the corner of 25th and Beall. This summer we picked up trash and tried to take care of it because it's beautiful.....butit's rarely taken care of by the city and people living on the other side are continually dumping yard waste into it. I would love any direction on how I can effectively move this effort forward in a productiveway to make 25th street safer. It is being used as a thorough fare that is the only connecting street to Oak and Durston from Babcock. I work for the common good of this community and have for over 15 years fundraising forThrive programming. I have always appreciated your dedication to Bozeman and enjoyed our visits when we've met on behalf of Thrive. Please help! -- Vanessa Skelton 406.579.7167
