HomeMy WebLinkAbout6-13-06 Community Alcohol Coalition Minutes June 13, 2006 Community Alcohol Coalition 4:00pm-5:30pm upstairs conference room, City building Members Present – Jenny Haubenreiser, Glenn Puffer, Heidi Donaldson, Sean Becker, Jenna Caplette, Becky Robideaux, Donna Larue Non-members – Heidi Donaldson, Alli Gidley Excused members – Sophie Mumford Unexcused member -- Lori Guyer, Andy Knight Welcome: Alli Gidley is the new Prevention Specialist with Alcohol and Drug Services of Gallatin County. She will be attending meetings to add her perspective and insight into community alcohol issues. Review Minutes from May meeting: Corrections were made to the May minutes, Glenn moved to approve. Member recruitment: Randy Dugger resigned from the CAC due to his ongoing work obligations, o which necessitate frequent travel. Randy expressed his regrets and the group acknowledged what a good member Randy has been. Sophie Mumford reported that she will be involved in school sports in the fall and o may not be able to stay active next fall. Glenn approached ASMSU for a college student representative to replace Dan o Czech, and will follow up at a later date. Becky suggested a fraternity or sorority member as a good person to have on the board. Stephanie Nielsen from the City/County Board of Health was suggested as o someone who might be able to recommend a medical staff member. Mackenzie River may consider involving one of their staff as a “hospitality” o member. Jenny spoke with Dave Wilson from the Baxter and he may be interested in sending one of his staff as well. One concern raised is how can we advertise to fill vacant positions on the board, and if so, how? The City occasionally advertises open positions on boards but not regularly. Jenna offered to write a news brief for the Chronicle, which would be free of charge. Another option is to have the Chronicle include a posting in the Calendar section of the paper. Responsible Server Brochures: Jenny received a call from the Parks Department requesting more brochures they give to people requesting permission to serve alcohol at a public facility. The City had printed 500 of them to start with, but lost track of the original. Becky will assist Alli in finding an original copy for the City to reproduce. CAC Brochure: Jenny reported that a new CAC brochure is ready for review. This will be disseminated on campus and throughout the community (with the assistance of Tracy Oulman). The group approved the brochure and made a couple of suggestions (make sure to specify the ordinance is only for Bozeman and add something about parents legally providing alcohol to their children). Due to space limitations, no additional content can be added, but can be included in future brochures. Music on Main: Jenny reported that Elle Staley is the new coordinator for Music on Main. Jenny had a conversation with her about past concerns members raised about alcohol use at the event (specific to certain bands that were playing). Ellie is very interested in addressing this and explained additional efforts to maintain a better environment at the event. She would like to attend a future meeting to get input from the Board. She also reported that she’ll be meeting with Mark Tamarack to work on a specific safety plan. She welcomes any input from CAC members who attend MoM throughout the summer. Ordinances: Paul is currently working on the Social Host ordinance. Helena is waiting to see if the Bozeman Social Host passes before the move on theirs. There does not seem to be any plan to make this a state legislative issue. Website: The topic of a CAC website was raised – the group would like to have a working website to house information and be a point of contact with the public. No one on the board has any skill specific to website development. Jenna suggested investigating GoDaddy.com to see what and how we would need to do to accomplish this. High School Outreach: Jenny and Heidi are interested in pursuing Sophie’s suggestion of using college students as peer educators for high school students. Lori put Jenny in contact with Laura St. John, who apparently is off for the summer. Jenny and Heidi will pursue this again in the fall. Site of Last Drink: Heidi went through the Site of Last Drink report that she complied using ADSGC’s DUI data. Jenna mentioned that she has 2006 data to be included. Drug Free School & Campus Act: Glenn provided an update on the DFSCA. He plans to send a survey out to various members of the community to get feedback on the Alcohol Tobacco and other Drugs policy at MSU. He would like to send this to the Tavern Association as well if they have a list serve. Next Meeting: Meeting adjourned at 5:30 The group voted to cancel the July meeting. th p.m. Next meeting will be Tuesday August 8, 2006
