RE: Application 19-468
January 24, 2020
Bozeman City Commission:
Thank you for your consideration on this planning project and your service to our community. We are in
support of the proposed annexation and R-3 zoning of the property at 3120 Wagon Wheel Rd. We are a
family of three and we are looking forward contributing to the already wonderful neighborhoods in the
area. As a young family in Bozeman we are seeking a supportive and safe environment in which to raise
our child. We believe that the proposed project will benefit not only ourselves, but it will also enrich the
neighborhood as we share many of the same values as the surrounding community. As potential future
homeowners we share a stake in maintaining the established quiet, safe and peaceful neighborhood.
I, Megan, am a stay at home parent to our 4 year old daughter. I support this zoning designation
because I want my daughter to have the kind of childhood I did. One where I could leave the house,
play outside all day with friends and come home for dinner. My mom and dad felt our neighborhood
was safe and that they could rely on other neighbors to keep watch over the playing children as they
would do. When we know our neighbors well, we trust that they will play a big role in raising all the
children of the neighborhood, keeping them safe and supporting active and imaginative childhoods.
And, when my daughter can go right outside of our front door to play with other kids, we will not have
to be so dependent on our vehicle.
I, Chad, am a part time adjunct instructor at Montana State University and I work full time in an office
south of campus. Like many Bozeman residents, we have had to find ways to offset the high cost of
living, and one of those ways is in our transportation habits. I commute by bicycle or Streamline bus as
often as I am able, but it can be difficult given our current home’s location on the west side of town. I
support infill development generally, and this proposed zoning application specifically. It will allow for
medium density development near existing services. We hope to one day move to this neighborhood,
and I know that it would allow us to further reduce our dependence on car trips due to its proximity to
schools, my workplace on campus, and downtown.
We would love the opportunity to live in a neighborhood that supports less dependence on vehicles and
focuses more on being good parents, friends and neighbors.
Thank you for your time,
Sincerely,
Megan Welborn Chad Welborn
