HomeMy WebLinkAboutLetterAugust 31, 2006 Members of the Affordable Housing Task Force - First and foremost, thank you for volunteering to serve on this task force whose assignment is of utmost importance in the community. As you will see from the enclosed materials, you are addressing an issue that has been a challenge in the community for a long time and never more than now. Carson Taylor, a professional facilitator, and I will be working with you on this effort and our objective is to make the process run as efficiently as we can. That said, I would like to offer some suggestions for your consideration right from the outset Neither Carson nor I are knowledgeable in the area of affordable housing. YOU are the experts and we will be relying on you as a group to provide the wide ranging expertise necessary to frilly address the issue at hand. I will happily distribute to the Task Force any materials any member wishes to place before the Task Force The City Commission has requested that the task force conclude its work within 60 days of the initial meeting. Each of you is sacrificing your valuable time to serve on this task force. The issue has often been passionate and is a matter on which thoughtful, well-intentioned people disagree, sometimes vehemently. As each of you has volunteered to help find a solution to the community's difficult situation, let me suggest several "rules of procedure" designed to allow the task force to proceed in an efficient, deliberative fashion: We should start our meetings promptly at the appointed time. Everyone who wishes to be heard has an opportunity to do so. NO sidebar conversations. . NO interrupting. 0 1-1 0 My contact information is: Ron Brey Assistant. City Manager City of Bozeman P.O. Box 1230 Bozeman, MT 59771-1230 _582-2307 rbreyLbozeman.net I have been difficult to reach these last few weeks but from this point forward, your communications are my top priority. I will be out of town the first week of October and will make provisions for my responsibilities to be handled by other staff members so you will not miss a beat. The following pages are the table of contents for this packet. I've noted a couple of things that you should certainly read, most notably your charge from the City Commission. The material is provided so you have ready access to items which are likely to arise during your deliberations. Again, I am happy to arrange for the distribution of materials individual members would like to present to the task force. Several items regarding inclusionary housing/zoning are included. The City Commission has indicated that this will be their course of action should the task force not arrive at a suitable alternative. It is also possible that a task force recommendation will include revisions to the inclusionary housing/zoning provisions considered by the Commission. Again, thank you for working on this difficult subject. Please let me know how I can help.
