To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to express concern about safety issues at the intersection of Kagy, Fairway
Drive, and Carol Place. This intersection is very dangerous due to the speed of cars (35
mph) and poor visibility both from the east and west. A neighbor calculated that there are
1.5 seconds between the time someone arrives at the curve and the crosswalk. Not
enough time to make careful decisions!
Dozens of joggers, pedestrians, bikers, and strollers cross this intersection every day
since it is an access to and from the Sourdough Trail. Although pedestrian crosswalks are
designated with white paint on the street, I personally have stood at the edge of the
crosswalk and even in the median area waiting for cars to stop so I could cross safely. In
the last month, at least 3-4 cars, mostly heading west, have failed to stop for me.
To avoid being killed or gravely injured, I am requesting a blinking signal be placed at
this intersection like the ones further west on Kagy. I know Kagy is designated as a
thoroughfare, hence the 35 mph speed limit. I think this is unreasonable for the amount
of traffic and cross streets in this section. If a signal is not possible, at least the City
should place signs warning of pedestrians crossing along the curves before the
intersection.
If you have questions, I would be happy to meet with a staff member to observe this
intersection and to discuss this issue. I request a reply to my letter.
Sincerely,
Amanda Cater
