BE xT HEItI;BY RESdLV'EA I3Y THE C)aM.ETEIZY HOARD 01: SIJNSrT IIZLLS CEMETIaTLY: That, recognizing the need for revision of existing rules and regula-- tians and to insure a continuing plan far placing, setting or erecting monuments, headstaner~ and markers in a workmanlike and orderly manner sv that they will, to the fullest posaT.ble extent, add Ca the beauty and attractiveness of the cemetery and, pursuant to the authority vested in this 13aard of Ordinance Nv. 6O4 of the City of Uozeman, the following Rules and Regulations on Monuments, Headstones and Markers and tlye placing, setting and erecting of the same in Sunset 1{ills Cemetery are hereby adapted and promulgated. x Monuments, headstones and permanent markers to be placed ar erected in Sunset }tills Cemetery must be of natural stone only, and of goad quality. Plvnu-- ments, headstones and permanent markers of concrete or other manufactured ar ar~- t~.ficial material shall not be allowed. Metal plates affixed to monuments or headstones must be bronze. Small temporary grave markers of akher metal materials or o£ woad w~.ll be permitted far a reasonable limited period only, following inter- ment, and sub~ecC to removal thereafter at the discretion of the Superintendent of the Cemetery or his authorized representative. Ix f'aundativn work and erection of monuments, headstones and markers shall be under the supervision of the Superintendent of Sunset hills Cemetery or his authorized representative who shah. have authority to stop such work at any time when it is found to be not in conformity with the following rules and regulations. (a) flefore any monument, headstone vt- marker i.s set ar erected in Sunset Ilills Cemetery a permit therefore shall be secured aX the office of the Secretary of the Cemetery Hoard, City Hall, Bozeman, Montana, for wlaiclt a fee of ~ ~5.0~ shall be paid. Separate permits shall be secured for each monument, headstone ar marker to be erected. Before any work commences an placement of headstone, permit must be presented to superintendent ar his auChorized representative, and site location must be confirmed. Cemetery personnel must be given 2G hours in which to complete work. (b) Each monument, headstone ar marker slra.ll be placed in a concrete foundatLort, to a depth of at least one inch, f'aundations shall be sub- ject to approval b'y the Superintencleut of the Cemetery or his dirr~at representative. Na preset foundations allowed. Foundation to be at least 4" in depth ar deeper depending on size of stone. The larger the stone, the deeper the faundatiacr. Fr,rnrct to be used shall be of at least ]./8 x 2" x 2" angle iron. 1?ach faundak.i.on shall be sa placed that the west line of it shall be on the. line of the parallel with ttae west line of the cemetery lot ar lots on which it is to be placed. It is the intenC of these regulations that every.foundatiari far a monument, headstone ar marker, when finished, shall be a true rectangular base seven inches wider on all sides than the base of the stone, thus making the founda- tion to provide a seven inch border around the base of the stave. No portion of the monument shall overhang the seven inch bander. This foundation shall be sa constructed that, when finished and Insofar as is practicable, its tap surface shall be level with the surrounding ground. Exceptions to these required locations will only be made in the location of "Family stones" which are to be set in the center of family plots consisting of £aur ar more lots, and the exact location of such "family stones" shall in each case be approved by the Super- intendent of Sunset Hills Cemetery by endorsement on the permit for such erections. Permanent flower vases will be allowed only on end of foundatiatts. (c) Persons engaged in erecting monuments or other structures are prohib- j.ted from attaching rapes to trees and shnubs, scattering materials on the ground any longer titan absolutely necessary and, in all cases, their work must be done in a neat and workmanlike manner and in ac- cordance with the rules of the Cemetery 13aard. (e) At locations where stones are being erected, adequate precautions will be taken to insure that dirt from foundation excavations, waste from concrete mixing yr other debris will vat be left on the ground. (f) These regulations shall apply to all sections of Sunset Hills Cemetery. (g) Upon completion of work, it must be approved by the Superintendent ar his representative and so designated on the permit. All foundations must be guaranteed for two (2) years. zxx All markers in blocks 1S2 and 153 shall be flat stones. And shall be set so that their tap surface shall be level with the surrounding ground. _ 2 w ,. ZV The erectian or placing of fact markers shall not be permitted in Sunset 1ii11s Cemetery except iti Family plots of (4) faun or more lots and khan only with written approval of the Superintendent of Sunset Hills Cemetery ar his authorized representative. VIII Any person, persona, company nr corporation engaged in ar proposing to engage in the erection of monuments, headstones. or markers in Sunset Hills Cemetery is hereby required to past a band of$ in cash with the Secretary of Sunset hills Cemetery Board, khis band to he a guarantee that any headstone, monument ar marker erected will be erected in accordance with these rules and regulations. Sould any person, persons, company or corporation erect any mono-~ meet, headstone ar marker not in accordance with these rules and regulations or not take steps to correct any violations with reasonable expediency, the Super- intendent of Sunset Hills Cemetery or his representative shall have the authority to correct the improper erection ar construction, a~ad tv deduct the cost of such correction from the bond herein specified. When any person, persona, company, or corporation lean completed or discontinued the setting, placing ar erectian of monuments, headstones ar markers in Sunset Hi~.ls cemetery and any and all work of that nature which they have done in said cemetery has been completed or discon- tinued and has been approved by the Superintendent, khe cash band required herein, ar any unused part thereof, shall be returned to the party posting the bond.
