HomeMy WebLinkAboutPark Report Dec 19PARK REPORT-DECEMBER OF 2019
The crew has transitioned into “winter mode”, as we have
experienced a few more snow events since our last meeting,
which have had us out plowing park sidewalks, parking lots and
shared use paths.
The two artificial turf fields are beginning to be plowed. Very
labor and equipment intensive to plow all that fake grass and
figuring out where to store the snow so it won’t affect next spring.
Additionally, the crew has decided to plow after every snow event
just to keep up on it. It would be unrealistic to assume in late
February or early March we would have the equipment to remove
massive amounts of snow from the turf.
Continued daily maintenance of our dog stations, garbage
collection locations and restrooms. We continue to maintain
Beall, Kenyon, Bozeman Pond and Southside bathrooms
throughout the winter. Additionally, winter shop activities include
staining and repairing all the picnic tables, park signs, garbage
racks and touching up park signage.
Ice rinks: as of Thursday December 5th, we have not started
soaking the base layer as the weather is way too warm during the
daytime. Three important factors:
1.) frost in the ground (obviously this pertains to the rinks out on
the grass- so the water doesn’t soak into the soil.)
2.) A solid base layer of snow ( this layer acts as our “refrigeration
system and reflects the sun)
3.) Consistent cold weather, like highs in the teens, so we can
apply multiple coats or laminates of water- over the course of a
day to smooth out the rink.
