Since the last Commission meeting where the Affordable Housing Plan was discussed, I have
planned to write to you and mention an idea that was proffered at the MSU SymBozium onAffordable Housing in early November. That is, in addition to increasing the supply of
housing to supposedly drive down prices, INCREASING minimum wage could makeavailable housing more feasible for current and prospective residents. This "solution" would
have the added effect of giving working members of the community a possible entry into therenters/owner's market.
I volunteer at the Warming Center and am aware of a number of guests who do, indeed havejobs but are nonetheless unable to afford housing. This seems tragic and unacceptable as a
community member and should be addressed both for the dignity of the guests as well as ourcollective community.
