Subject:Comments on road improvements

Greetings,
I recently read an article in the Chronicle regarding road improvements, and I wanted to
voice my comments regarding these improvements.
We live in the SE part of town in Painted Hills, and often drive Kagy Blvd. The university
area is a mess. Traffic is often severely backed up with the primary dysfunction centered at
the 11th street intersection. With the additional student housing building up on the S side of
Kagy, many students need to cross Kagy to move back and forth between campus and
housing. The light at Kagy/11th is very difficult to navigate during mid day – especially if
you are travelling south on 11th and wishing to turn east on Kagy. The turn arrow does not
function – it remains blinking yellow… so only 1-2 cars can actually make the left turn
before the light turns red again. I highly suggest that any future planning for housing on the
south side of Kagy be coupled with the addition of walking over or under passes so that
students can cross Kagy without impacting traffic on Kagy. I fear that it’s only going to get
worse.
Additionally, I would also like to see the addition of a bike lane on Kagy between Highland
and Bozeman Trail. I frequently ride my bike on this section of road, but with the recent
addition of guardrails, the room for safe navigation is really squeezed. That in combination
with numerous distracted drivers, I find my willingness to go and dice it up with cars and
trucks on this section of road is not a risk I’m willing to take anymore. That just means I’m
in my car more, which is something we as a community should try to avoid if we can.
Thanks for the opportunity to voice my concerns.
Thanks,
-Rich
