Vodehnal - Priority for Capital Improvement PlanFrom:Gary Vodehnal To:Agenda Cc:Ralph Zimmer Subject:Priority for Capital Improvement Plan Date:Friday, November 15, 2019 4:41:27 PM Dear Mayor and Commissioners, I understand that the capital Improvement project SIF-158 to improve College Street from 8th to 19th, which was scheduled for start of engineering in 2020 has been bumped to the FY 25 budget. Please consider making this a very high priority project and move it back to a 2020 start. I live close to College and drive it on a daily basis. The number of cars, pedestrians, and bicyclists using this corridor is incredible and the use increases each year! Sadly, this corridor lacks adequate sidewalks and safe, accessible crossings. This lack of signed and marked crosswalks leads to unpredictable and chaotic behavior on the part of pedestrians and drivers, especially in the commercial area between 8th and 11th. I am concerned that a pedestrian or bicyclist will be killed or injured. Use will only increase as the University population grows, and new dormitories are built close to this corridor. If you are serious about reducing the carbon footprint of automobiles and improving the ability of people to safely bike and walk to their destination, This Is The Place And Time To Invest Those Transportation Dollars!! Please include a complete sidewalk system, bike lanes, and accessible crosswalks along the entire corridor. A landscaped boulevard with aesthetically pleasing lighting, would make the corridor more attractive and safer, especially along the business district from 8th to 11th. Turn lanes are needed at 13th and 15th, and a roundabout would be far superior to the 4- way at 8th. Thank you for considering my comments.
