HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-06-19 Public Comment - J. Cramer - HRDC Warming Center SiteFrom:Jody Cramer To:Agenda Subject:Warming shelter location opposition Date:Wednesday, November 06, 2019 8:42:38 PM I am writing this email to express my dissatisfaction with the idea that a warming shelter could have been approved for HRDC at the 3025 Westridge location. I understand the need, but the location is terrible being well over .25 mile from the nearest sheltered public transit stop. HRDC got a head of themselves in purchasing this home for this use, should have received the approval prior to purchasing the home. We live a block away from this house and not only will it be unsafe for our neighborhood given the very large number individuals that will temporary move into the area are not screened by HRDC but also that location is already a traffic jam in morning and at night with kids and cars, even though HRDC says that they will buss them in at 7am my daughter and many other children are walking right by that house prior to school and well after school is dismissed due to before and after school programs. This neighborhood was zoned R1 for good reason, and changing it will have serious implications on the safety in the neighborhood and on the elected officials that may grant a change in the zoning. It upsets me very much that sex offenders, felons and mentally ill could potentially be introduced to my neighborhood. Once introduced they can start hanging out in the local parks and common areas. With an elementary and middle school within a few minute walk.....such a bad idea. There has to be a better location not near schools and closer to the bus stop. I request that this new zoning is not approved and that HRDC find an alternate location, as there are obviously other options besides in one of the most expensive real estate areas in Bozeman.
