Cramer - HRDC Warming Center SiteFrom:Jody Cramer To:Sarah Rosenberg Cc:Agenda Subject:Do Not Approve Date:Wednesday, November 06, 2019 8:46:59 PM I am a resident of Alder Creek Subdivision and I’m writing to inform you of my concern regarding the Human Resource Development Council’s (HRDC) proposed purchase of a single-family residence located at 3025 Westridge Drive, Bozeman, herein after referred to as “The Residence”. The Residence is located within 287 feet from Morning Star Elementary School, one mile toMontana State University (MSU) and one-half mile of Sacajawea Middle School. Countless students walk and bike to and from these schools daily, passing right by The Residence on their way. Because HRDC would not screen individuals utilizing The Residence, there is concern for the safety of our children. According to the Bozeman Police Department, last season between November and April,HRDC’s Durston location had alarming criminal activity which included: - 23 medical calls - 10 disorderly conducts - 6 welfare checks - 6 assaults - 6 warrants - 5 traffic complaints - 5 trespass complaints - 5 follow-ups - 1 theft - 1 missing person The HRDC does not control the would-be inhabitants of The Residence, and there is significant concern there would be individuals with sexual abuse and violent offenderhistory within extremely close proximity to Morning Star School, Sacajawea Middle School and MSU. The Residence would house up to 36 people nightly. This, in a R-1 zoned neighborhood is absurd. This number of occupants combined with the designated smoking breaks for this many people will significantly affect the value of homes in the area. Those living in theFiggins subdivision would be subject to declining house values. This is not about lack of compassion for those individuals needing shelter. I care deeply about the HRDC’s mission. The Residence is simply not a good location for the shelter. It’stoo much of a safety concern given The Residence’s close proximity to three major schools in Bozeman. Please DO NOT approve this Special Use Permit. Thank you. William Cramer
