Stone - HRDC Warming Center SiteFrom:Nathan Stone To:Agenda Subject:Support for HRDC Women and Family Shelter Special Use Permit (SUP) for 3025 Westridge Drive. Date:Thursday, November 07, 2019 12:51:00 AM To whom it may concern: Please accept this letter as an expression of my support of the HRDC Women and Family Shelter Special Use Permit (SUP) for 3025 Westridge Drive. In making a decision to support the application, it is important to review and understand the facts. For instance, this shelter will be an overflow shelter for women and familiesexperiencing homelessness. The shelter will only be operational from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am (i.e., outside school hours), and will be staffed at all times. Guests at the shelter will berequired to sign in and adhere to the Warming Center’s behavioral guidelines. Previously, Christ the King Lutheran Church served as an overflow facility for women and families. Christ the King is located on the corner of Durston and Flanders Mill, anintersection that services three schools; namely Meadowlark, Heritage Christian, and Petra Academy. Meadowlark elementary is the largest elementary school in the district andHeritage Christian is located directly across the street. Upon review I believe you will find that operation of the overflow facility at Christ the King had little to no impact on any ofthe schools, or on the Flanders Mill and Valley West neighborhoods. As a result, it is reasonable to assume that operation of the women’s and family shelter at 3025 WestridgeDrive will not have a material impact on the surrounding neighborhood or it’s residents. Operation of the shelter in the manner proposed by HRDC will, however, have a verymeaningful impact on the women and children who will be provided with a warm, safe place to stay, and the hope that comes from knowing someone cares about you. Thank you for your time and for considering this letter of support. Sincerely Nate Stone
