Wester - HRDC Warming Center SiteFrom:C To:Agenda Subject:opposition to #19-438 warming center at 3025 Westridge Date:Wednesday, November 06, 2019 11:08:31 AM I oppose special use permit application #19-438, a proposal to place a warming center at 3025 Westridge Drive. As city commissioners, you have been honored by the vote of the majority of voters of Bozeman to serve on the city commission. What have you done with this majority vote? You have taken this majority vote and passed Ordinance #1997 that changed the zoning of the majority of residential areas in Bozeman! Ordinance #1997 dated April 18, 2018, changes the zoning of all residential areas (zones R-1 through R-5) in the city of Bozeman to place transitional and emergency housing in these zones, and yes, hidden in the definition of these types of “housing” is “warming center.” Home buyers and now homeowners have no choice in whether to live next to a warming center or not, because you have removed that choice for us. Ordinance 1997 does nothing to ensure the compatibility of uses and to promote public health, safety and welfare, which are our guarantees in Montana law. The proposal for a warming center at 3025 Westridge Dr. pits 28 homeless adults against 1,192 children--students at Morningstar and Sacajawea. These 1,192 children who have yet to chart their course are being pitted against 28 adults whose course has taken a wrong turn. Ask yourself who is the most vulnerable here, who holds the future of this community and this city in their hands. C. Wester 2601 Westridge Dr.
